Today is the Feast of the Maternity of the Blessed Virgin Mary

Second Sunday in October. The object of this feast is to commemorate the dignity of the Mary as Mother of God. Mary is truly the Mother of Christ, who in one person unites the human and divine nature. This title was solemnly ratified by the Council of Ephesus, 22 June, 431. The hymns used in the office of the feast also allude to Mary's dignity as the spiritual mother of men. The love of Mary for all mankind was that of a mother, for she shared all the feelings of her son whose love for men led Him to die for our redemption.
In the Roman Breviary the feast of the Maternity is commemorated on the second, and the feast of the Purity on the third, Sunday in October.
This glorious feast was established as a commemoration of the Third Ecumenical Council of the Church at Ephesus, in 431. It was set up for our own time in 1931 by Pope Pius XI, fifteen hundred years after the Council of Ephesus. The Catholic Church infallibly declares and defines the Divine Maternity of Our Lady. The Catholic Church tells us that in order to be saved we must believe with our full hearts that the same Person Who is the Son of God the Eternal Father in His Divine nature is also the Child of Mary the Virgin in His human nature. Anyone who refuses or hesitates to call Mary the Mother of God will never be saved.

Our Lady of Holy Rosary and of the Victory ( of Lepanto) , we have unshaken confidence in thy influence with thy Son, our Lord, Jesus Christ. Humbly we ask thy intercession for all of us associated under thy title, Our Lady of Victory.
We beg your powerful assistance also for our own personal needs.
(here our prayer petition)
In thy maternal kindness please ask thy beloved Divine Son our Lord Jesus to forgive all our sins and failings, and to secure His blessings for us and for all the works of charity dedicated to thy name.
We implore thee to obtain for us the grace of sharing Christ’s victory and thine forever in the life that knows no ending.
May we join thee then to praise forever the Father, His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghosy, one God, for all the ages to come. Amen.

Novena in Honor of the Maternity of the Blessed Virgin Mary with Three Ave Maria's

(Indulgences of 100 Days, Aug. 11, 1824)

Virgin most holy, Mother of the Word Incarnate, Who dost dispense graces, Refuge of us poor sinners; we fly to thy maternal love with lively faith, and we ask thee to obtain for us grace ever to do the will of God and thine own. Into thy most holy hands we commit the keeping of our hearts; beseeching thee for health of soul amid body, in the certain hope that thou, our most loving Mother, wilt hear our prayer. Wherefore with lively faith we say Ave Maria three times.

Let us pray

Defend, O Lord, we beseech Thee, us Thy servants from all infirmity, through the intercession of the Blessed Mary ever-Virgin; and mercifully protect us, who prostrate ourselves before Thee with our whole heart, from the snares of the enemy. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.
